Why These Candidates?

Stand Up For Mar Vista

  • As caring community members, they came together because each holds the core belief that we must Stand Up For Mar Vista to keep the best of our community.
  • None are beholden to any special interests, only to the well-being of Mar Vista.
  • While moving forward, if we do not Stand Up for Mar Vista, we will lose why we moved here and Mar Vista will be changed beyond recognition.
  • These candidates are dedicated to working together so all of Mar Vista benefits - not for personal or political gain.

They are listed in the order they will be on your ballot.

At-Large Directors

Vote for only these 5 candidates as this makes your vote stronger.

At-Large

Jordan Paul

Charlene Samiley

Kathy Rodriguez

I am committed to developing informed, compassionate, and actionable responses to the recent increases in crime, development, and people experiencing homelessness in Mar Vista.  Most importantly, I will provide a voice for our community as we engage in productive dialogue and solutions that work for everyone.

I have seen Mar Vista go from being a robust, small artist town to an unsafe, mismanaged town. I am not interested in cleaning what has been lost, but instead, have a vote in not losing more ground. Citizens need to have a voice and to be heard and feel safe in their community. I will respect others' opinions as well as weighing what is best for a large group of stakeholders, not a few.

We have lived in Mar Vista as renters and as homeowners. We have always shared space with our unhoused neighbors at the 405/Venice encampment. However, we are experiencing a different encampment. Recently, we have witnessed 4 fires and 3 shootings. Our housed and unhoused neighbors are suffering as elected officials escape accountability. If elected, I will "Stand Up for Mar Vista" and be a voice for all!

My family moved to Mar Vista in the early 70’s. Over the decades, I’ve observed a lot of changes: some good, some not. I’m running to be a part of the decision-making process that affects us all.. I’m NOT a politician. I am a parent and your neighbor, who cares deeply for the future of Mar Vista. Our elected leaders MUST be held accountable. I’ll listen to you and advocate for you. Let’s do this together!

Stacey Greenwald

I have lived in Mar Vista for nine years, have two children, run a design business. I am running for office because there has never been so much at stake for Mar Vista. Our councilman endorses a plan that increases rental prices, traffic, and overtaxes our essential yet fragile infrastructure beyond its capability. I am running with like-minded people who will Stand Up For Mar Vista!

Community Director

Vote For Only One

No matter your stakeholder status, you may vote for one Community Director candidate.

Community

Kathryn Wheeler

In 2019, I was honored to be elected as an At-Large Director.

This term, I would like to expand my representation to those who have a Community Interest and believe that I am uniquely qualified for this position.

Over the past two years, besides my duties as Outreach Chair and Data Liaison, I’ve played a key role in some Mar Vista firsts:

  • a statistically accurate survey that addressed community concerns including homelessness, crime, traffic, infrastructure, development that gave key insights into your views on these important issues
  • an agreement to eliminate storage fees (savings to the taxpayer of over $6,000 annually)
  • a key role in making MVCC the first Neighborhood Council to hold virtual meetings
  • a Public Service Announcement bus bench campaign

In the upcoming term, I intend to fight even harder for you on issues of importance to YOU. I will use the survey results to see that our elected officials pay attention to your concerns.

I will always listen to you and Stand Up for YOU.

Zone Directors

Vote For Only One

Your ballot will only have your Zone Director candidate on it. Visit MarVista.org/zone to find your Zone.

Zone

Martin Rubin for Zone 2

Robert Watkins for Zone 4

Andrew Marton for Zone 3

Current Zone 2 Director and NWNA President, I am an involved member of the community--leading the effort against SMO and LAX air and noise pollution, I understand the changing pulse of our neighborhood, and I am uniquely qualified to continue representing all of our Zone 2 stakeholders. The MVCC exists mainly to advise L.A. City officials, and they certainly should be receptive to our local advisement. If reelected, I will continue to emphasize the environment, public health, and our quality of life. Your participation is important to amplify our voice to the City, and I would be honored to continue to help lead the effort.

Andrew Marton for Zone 3

I am active in our community primarily through my membership with the Westdale HOA and have tried to have some impact on local issues through the years. I have seen a lot of changes in the neighborhood over the last several years and believe that it is time for me to have a more involved role in neighborhood issues that have an impact on Zone 3.  Our plan is to spend the rest of our lives in the neighborhood, so I have a very strong desire to participate in our local politics and believe I can promote the best interests for the residents in my zone.

Robert Watkins for Zone 4

Robert Watkins for Zone 4

Robert Watkins for Zone 4

Current Zone 4 Director and member of the MVNA, I have worked hard to find a fair and balanced solution of accountability. I love this community because it’s unpretentious and full of hard-working, caring people, who walk their dogs and help their neighbors. I’m an orthopedic spine surgeon and Chief of Staff at Cedars-Sinai Marina del Rey Hospital. Also, co-founder of its Diversity and Inclusion Committee. I’m running for Zone 4 Director because I care about our community. We, as a group of concerned neighbors, must come together with practical and compassionate solutions to our neighborhood’s problems.

Drew Ruesch for Zone 5

Tyler Proctor for Zone 7

Robert Watkins for Zone 4

I am committed to preserving and maintaining Mar Vista's charming and diverse neighborhood that we have all built and want to live in. A place where we can safely walk to neighborhood restaurants, coffee shops and drug stores. With your support, I will work to bring synergy between the MVCC and the city council office for CD11.

Holly Tilson for Zone 6

Tyler Proctor for Zone 7

Tyler Proctor for Zone 7

Current Zone 6 Director, Treasurer, and Elections & Bylaws Committee Vice-chair. I would like to continue to represent my neighbors and fight for them. I am proud that Zone 7 was finally realized as stakeholders have had this desire for some time.and I was able to assist in its reality.

Currently serving the community as an At-Large Director, I want to be a voice for those in Zone 7. This Zone did not exist until last year, and I would like to represent its unique positions to the Council. I look forward to continuing my service representing our wonderful community.
